The System Administrator is a strategic, hands-on technical role responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and scaling the core systems that support Dermatology Partners’ fast-growing clinical network—now at 40 locations and expanding. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of our enterprise infrastructure, including virtual environments, servers, cloud platforms, and datacenter assets.
Working closely with the Facilities/IT Manager and internal development resources, the System Administrator helps deploy scalable, automated, and standardized systems across all sites. This includes supporting software initiatives, improving technical workflows, and implementing high-impact solutions that streamline operations and ultimately enhance patient care.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be As a System Administrator:
• Infrastructure & Systems Management
• Administer and maintain enterprise systems including rack servers, virtualization platforms, domain services, storage, and backups/snapshots.
• Implement and maintain High Availability (HA) across key servers and supporting infrastructure.
• Manage existing Proxmox environments and Proxmox Backup OS for critical asset protection.
• Ensure comprehensive redundancy—backups, HA, RAID—and maintain documented disaster recovery pathways.
• Maintain hardware, firmware, BIOS, and patching schedules for mission-critical systems and storage pools (HDD/SSD arrays).
• Implement and uphold security best practices: permission structures, credential management, SSH hardening, firewall and IDS/IPS configuration.
• Partner with the IT Manager and in-house programmer to build, integrate, and enhance tools, workflows, and systems.
• Support application deployments, API integrations, scripting, and process automation.
• Translate operational or business needs into scalable technical implementations through planning, consulting, and architecture discussions.
• Apply consistent deployment methodologies and produce high-level infrastructure documentation for leadership review.
• Support cybersecurity initiatives including anti-phishing campaigns, system hardening, and periodic security reviews.
• Assist with identity management, endpoint security, access control, and logging oversight.
• Ensure all systems and practices comply with HIPAA and other relevant regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration, Support & Technical Leadership
• Serve as a high-level escalation resource for complex infrastructure or enterprise incidents.
• Collaborate with the Facilities/IT Manager on road mapping, standards development, and long-term technology strategy.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to help desk staff and field technicians.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date system documentation, network diagrams, and SOP's.
• Must be able to travel to our 40+ locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware**
• Must be willing to participate in occasional on-call, nights, or weekend maintenance windows (emergencies, migrations, and repairs.**
Requirements:
What we look for :
• 3 + years of experience in system administration or infrastructure engineering.
• Strong background in virtualization platforms, Linux server administration, and command-line proficiency.
• Experience maintaining server and network hardware in enterprise environments (Datacenter, NOC, or similar).
• Experience deploying or managing systems across multi-site organizations.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly scaling environment.
• Willingness to participate in occasional on-call, nights, or weekend maintenance windows (emergencies, migrations, repairs).
• Working knowledge of Dell server BIOS/Lifecycle tools, RAID configuration, port forwarding, and IP tables.
• Strong sense of ownership, initiative, and follow-through.
• Collaborative, respectful, and able to work effectively across departments.
• Ability to design scalable, repeatable systems with long-term organizational growth in mind.
• Clear, confident communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Commitment to supporting reliable IT operations that directly impact patient experience and care quality.
Preferred Experience:
• Healthcare IT experience.
• Familiarity with Linux-based server OSs, Identity & Access Management solutions, UCS, Proxmox VE, and Proxmox Backup OS.
• Experience with ZFS file systems and RAID.
• Cloud knowledge (Azure, AWS, M365).
• Experience with Unifi network platforms and enterprise router infrastructure (USG Pro, UXG, Cloud Key).
• Strong networking background (switching, VLANs, firewalls, SD-WAN, IDS/IPS, forwarding rules, proxies).
• Relevant certifications: VMware VCP, CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft certs, etc.
