Outage Sequencer
The Project Outage Planner will work within the Project Controls organization to plan system outages, prepare outage requests and coordinate outages to support existing construction schedules for transmission & distribution projects that are part of FirstEnergy Transmission's (FET) & Dx capital rider portfolio programs. The position will assist with the development of construction schedules for future work to ensure that work can be accomplished as planned.
Responsibilities include:
• Demonstrating a strong commitment to all aspects of safety
• Utilizing FirstEnergy's corporate computer software applications including:
• Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA), Energy Management System (EMS), GIS applications, OPPM and Cascade
• Developing construction sequence plans that are complex in nature and incorporating information from various sources
• Leading project staff on the development of construction and outage sequences
• Scheduling switching to enable work on lines and substations including power plant substations, customer substations, transmission lines and distribution lines
• Analyzing outage requests for contingencies
• Maintaining compliance with PJM outage coordination requirements
• Coordinating transmission and distribution switching schedules with field personnel, control center(s) and project management personnel to meet project deadlines
• Advising personnel regarding proper switching procedures and ensuring switching documents satisfy Manual of Operations and other requirements
• Developing and providing reports that communicate switching information
• Recommending operational improvements related to switching methods
• Maintaining an awareness of on-going electrical system activity
• Maintaining a questioning attitude
Qualificationsfor the Project Outage Planner include:
• Two-year Technical degree from an accredited engineering or technical school required
• Zero (0) to two (2) years related experience. Related experience includes project coordination, project development, project management, scheduling resources / equipment, system operator experience, line or substation construction experience
• In lieu of degree, two (2) to four (4) years related experience will be considered
• Works safely according to company policies and procedures
• Capable of effective performance in problem solving, simultaneously managing multiple projects and teamwork
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills
• Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written
• Preferred skills with the software necessary to perform this job, e.g. EDOA, EMS, and MS Office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to work effectively in a high stress, high volume work environment
