Athens First United Methodist Church has a rich history and commitment to being a downtown location. We are a thriving mid-size United Methodist Congregation located in downtown Athens, two blocks away from the University of Georgia. Position Objective: The Facilities Technician will serve the Church in all areas associated with the manual upkeep of the physical plant and grounds. The Facilities Technician will practice personal disciplines which will enhance the validity of the Christian faith and the ability to communicate that faith through witness and example. The Facilities Technician is supervised by the Director of Facilities and Grounds and is accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. General Responsibilities: Event Support -Set-up and break down furniture and equipment for events within the church Maintenance -Perform general maintenance duties such as painting, changing light bulbs, maintaining batteries in emergency lights, and emptying trash cans daily -Handle minor equipment and facilities repairs -Maintain the church’s parking lots with daily upkeep -Perform exterior services such as sweeping sidewalks, picking up trash, pressure washing, and general playground maintenance -Survey facilities and grounds to identify housekeeping and general maintenance needs -Maintain all facility closets by organizing and inventorying supplies and equipment -Provide additional cleaning when needed in preschool or any occupied space -Work with subcontractors when carpet cleaning, striping floors, etc. -Clean and service the vehicles monthly -Perform opening and closing procedures for the building Security -Provide security for staff and congregation members when present -Work in a safe manner and model safe behaviors for others Other -Be attentive to the needs of the congregation in regard to the facilities and security -Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor General Qualifications To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform the general responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the demonstrated knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. -Exhibit a service attitude -Ability to use basic hand tools and perform general maintenance -Work effectively with our staff and volunteers in a team environment -An eye for orderliness and cleanliness -Ability to use independent judgment Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the general duties of this job. While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to walk the facility and perform light duty building tasks. Requires physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds. Dress Code -AFUMC logoed shirt, worn in accordance to Personal Appearance policy -Name tag -Clean and neat pants or shorts Hours, compensation and benefits: This is a part-time position with an hourly rate commensurate with training and experience. Scheduled work include weekdays, weekends, and hours vary based on needs and events of AFUMC. Other matters are in accordance with the church’s Personnel Policies .
