Location: Athens, GA (with flexibility for travel)
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Job Summary
The Sales Manager will be responsible for defining and executing Athens’ global sales strategy. This leader will guide the field sales team, spearhead strategic initiatives, and manage inside sales and sales support functions to ensure seamless customer engagement. The position demands both strategic vision and hands-on leadership to drive growth across key markets. In addition, the Manager will lead high-level sales engagements with major customers throughout North America and, as opportunities arise, in international markets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales Leadership & Strategy:
• Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy aligned with company growth objectives.
• Drive expansion into key international markets through both direct sales and distributor partnerships.
• Identify new revenue opportunities across IVD, Research, and Cell Culture Media market segments.
Field Sales Management:
• Lead, mentor, and guide the field sales team to achieve revenue targets.
• Support customer engagement through regular travel, client visits, and participation in major trade shows (e.g., ADLM, Medica, CACLP).
• Implement key account planning processes to strengthen customer relationships and expand wallet share.
Inside Sales & Sales Support:
• Lead the inside sales team to generate new leads, qualify customer opportunities, and drive sustained annual account growth.
• Manage sales support functions to ensure timely responses to customer inquiries, quotations, and order processing.
• Ensure alignment between inside and field sales to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Drive the implementation of Continuous Improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Inside Sales and Sales Support operations.
Strategic Initiatives & Performance Management:
• Lead strategic initiatives, including pricing strategies, and distributor program support.
• Establish and track KPIs to monitor sales performance, pipeline health, and customer engagement.
• Collaborate with Marketing to develop campaigns, collateral, and product positioning tailored to global markets.
Required Qualifications :
• Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, or a related field; MBA or higher preferred.
• 3+ years of field sales experience in life sciences, InVitro Diagnostics, Cell Culture Media, or related industries.
• Demonstrated experience developing and leading new sales initiatives and/or new product launches.
• Proven track record of achieving and exceeding revenue targets.
• Experience managing sales teams, with demonstrated ability to scale a sales organization.
• Strong understanding of InVitro Diagnostics, Cell Culture Media, and Academic Research markets preferred.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (~10–30%)
• Working knowledge of laboratory environments, analytical testing, and scientific documentation.
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
