About Us

Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.
Location
This position requires onsite attendance at the Athens location five days a week.

Job Summary
This is a professional (senior) level position responsible for maintaining the operation of select LAN/Datacenter related network services according to higher education system policies and procedures. The position coordinates and implements network software and hardware upgrades of varying complexity. The position troubleshoots and resolves LAN/Datacenter performance, connectivity, and related network problems of varying complexity. This position generally possesses authority to coordinate work of junior staff members and instructs in specific techniques or technical methods to accomplish work assignments for projects. This position may serve as project leader on special projects.
Responsibilities
1. Responds to network service interruptions.
2. Installs new network devices.
3. Configures routers, switches, load balancers, and firewalls.
4. Works with vendors to obtain quotes and procure parts, supplies, and equipment.
5. Schedules network maintenance.
6. Troubleshoots the configuration, reconfiguration, and installation of networking equipment.
7. Monitors network utilization trends, gathers statistics, and analyzes data for proactive network capacity planning.
8. Provides consultation, technical expertise, information and support to central office staff, USG institutions and other customers.
9. Writes documentation for procedures, requirements, etc.
10. Prepares reports and statistics as needed.
11. Designs and runs ad hoc custom solutions as needed.
12. Attends professional training and development.
13. Designs, implements, and monitors enterprise LAN, datacenter, voice, and wireless networks.
14. Serves on, or leads, project teams in order to research and develop appropriate technologies which increase the effectiveness of Information Technology Services and its customers.
15. Provides training and advice to less-experienced staff; resolves complex and escalated problems and issues.
16. Works as a member of a 24 hour on-call rotation for network emergencies and outages.
17. Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
