Position Summary
The University of Georgia Libraries seeks an innovative, service-oriented individual for the position of GIL/GALILEO Systems Librarian. This faculty Librarian position reports to the Manager of GIL/GALILEO Technical Support Services at the University of Georgia Libraries Athens campus. This position will serve as a member of the GIL Team and act as the library subject matter and ILS workflow expert for the GIL team, and as liaison between GIL staff and GIL member libraries, working with all levels of library staff across the state in the identification and investigation of system issues and enhancements. This position participates in various state-wide groups engaged in specific development tasks related to ILS systems.
They will participate in professional activity and serve on library, university, and statewide committees and initiatives. This role will require close collaboration with colleagues at the Libraries and beyond.
GALILEO stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online, an initiative of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. GALILEO is an online library portal to authoritative, subscription-only information. GALILEO includes more than 2000 institutions among them are the universities and colleges of the University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia along with Georgia K-12 schools and public libraries.
GIL stands for GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, the integrated library management system for acquiring, cataloging, accessing, and circulating the collections of the USG institutions. GIL uses Ex Libris’ integrated library system software, which is hosted in the cloud by Ex Libris. In addition to library catalogs and services for each library, each institution has access to a “union” view, with the holdings of all GIL participants. Through this view, GIL Express requesting (borrowing books from another USG library) is initiated. GIL applications support staff are located at UGA (supporting 27 USG institutions).

• Advanced knowledge of library metadata standards, including BIBFRAME, RDA and MARC
• Familiarity with metadata/MARC manipulation tools
• Knowledge of the FOLIO, Ex Libris Alma Integrated Library System, or other modern ILS software.
• Advanced aptitude with common software applications, such as spreadsheets, word processing, presentation applications, etc.
• Ability to work independently to apply knowledge to solutions of new and varied problems.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Provides support for the Intergrated Library System (ILS), which includes analyzing, troubleshooting, and solving problems reported by University System of Georgia and University of Georgia library staff. Maintains a deep understanding of complex ILS workflows, configuration, and functionality. When necessary, works with library and ILS vendor to escalate specific issues on behalf of USG and UGA libraries.
• Monitors ServiceNow, the USG service management tool, in order to provide support for the services GIL provides, which involves analyzing and trouble-shooting problems reported by library staff, developing solutions, assigning tickets to other GIL staff based on specialty, periodically reviewing the ticket queue to weed/prune solved cases, and escalating cases up to the vendor when necessary. Coordinate and lead periodic meetings with GIL management and/or ILS vendor to review and escalate tickets
• Coordinate with the ILS vendor and community through participation in committees and/or Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Work with vendors and community groups to provide feedback on new development efforts, prepare for and test new features, functionality, and/or system releases, and advocate for USG community development and functionality needs in the ILS community.
• Provides project management support by managing communications, meeting facilitation, building consensus between stakeholders, creating documentation and reports, coordinating upgrades and monitoring project timelines.
• Works with various state-wide committees and GIL staff to evaluate, document, and suggest improvements for library workflows and procedures. Helps to guide committees in their charge and works with them to determine support and project needs. Assists with the preparation and facilitation of statewide committee meetings, webinars, or other training, including, but not limited to, the monthly Institutional Leads meetings.
• Develops and maintains professional skills by participating in continuing education and professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and committee work; by conducting research and writing for publication; or by engaging in other creative and learning activities and expectations for librarianship and service as required for promotion.
