Farm Operations Technician - Perennial Systems
The Farm Operations Technician position facilitates and assists with implementing farm activities to enable any and all production, research, education, communication, and development projects to function as designed. Farm activities for this position will focus on perennial systems, but the Farm Operations Technician will be trained to work in all systems over time. The Farm Operations Technician will participate in project design through completion, carrying out all daily activities while maintaining activity logs. This position reports to the Farm Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Take part in the execution of day-to-day tasks
• Operate between research plots, production fields, orchards, and educational fields
• Maintain all field records for organic and regenerative organic certification
• Tractor operation, using tractor-mounted implements, irrigation, transplanting, seeding, cultivating, hand weeding, spraying, harvesting, collecting data, and any other field tasks requested are included
• Heavy focus on perennial fruit production (raspberries, blueberries, apples, pears, strawberries, hazelnuts, chestnuts, locust, and others)
• Assist with vegetable production, processing, and distribution
• Assist in planning and execution of pollinator habitats and riparian zones
• Maintain an aesthetically pleasing appearance in landscaped areas
• Prepare sites/landscapes for meetings, tours, events, etc.
• Additional landscaping activities include transplanting, hand weeding, watering, seeding, dead-heading, harvesting, spraying, pruning, trellising, mowing, trimming fence lines, and any other landscaping tasks requested
• Assist the farm team in execution of production plans for all controlled environment structures
• Maintain planting stock as needed
• Assist in processing and delivering farm products
• Maintain processing logs
• Lead and/or supervise volunteers when requested
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and office space
Required Qualifications & Experience: • At least two years of experience in manual labor, agriculture, or landscaping
• At least two years of experience in fruit production
• Ability to maintain and organize activity logs
• Positive, motivated, professional attitude
• Ability to be flexible with schedule as farm work can be unpredictable
• Works well in both a team-oriented environment and alone
• Able to lift and carry +50lbs
• Able and willing to work in any weather conditions
Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent
