The Development and Traffic Coordinator is a multifaceted role responsible for managing the station’s underwriting and traffic system, coordinating promotional, public service, and fundraising efforts. This position oversees freelance underwriting sales consultants, ensures accurate revenue tracking and invoicing, and supports annual giving initiatives. This role also plays a key part in planning and executing community events and special projects, including coordinating the production of brand-compliant promotional merchandise and materials. Strong organizational, communication, and production skills are essential, as the position involves regular interaction with clients, listeners, community members, and University partners to cultivate engagement and ensure regulatory compliance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent writing and editing skills with an understanding of broadcast copy standards.
• Familiarity with FCC regulations related to underwriting and programming.
• Comfortable interacting with diverse stakeholders and working collaboratively across departments.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to last-minute programming or schedule changes.
• Experience with traffic systems and basic accounting/invoicing practices.
• Audio production and voice talent experience.

Underwriting and On-Air Messaging
• Write, edit, record, produce, and manage inventory for underwriting announcements, promotional spots, and public service announcements, ensuring all content complies with FCC guidelines.
• Maintain internal standards for copy quality, including grammar, timing, syllable count, name pronunciations, and functional URLs.
• Coordinate the placement and scheduling of on-air spots, while maintaining and enforcing copy deadlines.

Traffic and Program Log Management
• Generate and oversee daily and weekly program and traffic logs to ensure accurate and timely scheduling of content.
• Reconcile discrepancies and maintain workflow integrity between programming, underwriting, and billing systems.
• Assist with management of weekly broadcast schedules, including responding to any programming changes, preemptions, or last-minute revisions.
• Monitor and maintain traffic software systems, including liaising with vendors and technical support to troubleshoot or improve functionality.
• Prepare and maintain reports for CPB, GPB, and FCC as needed.

Client Services and Revenue Coordination
• Collaborate with underwriting sales consultants to secure new contracts and manage relationships with current clients. Maintain contracts in the designated repository.
• Enter contracts and client details into traffic and billing system. Issue invoices and track payments.
• Partner with the division’s finance team to report billing activity, process sales commissions, and reconcile revenue reports.
• Follow up proactively on outstanding accounts and maintain contract records and documentation.

Community Engagement and Promotional Projects
• Work alongside the Program Director to plan, promote, and execute station events, listener initiatives, and special projects.
• Coordinate with division’s design, trademarks, and finance teams to develop brand-compliant promotional materials, merchandise, and apparel.
• Serve as a station representative to sponsors, listeners, community organizations, and university departments to cultivate relationships and drive annual giving.
• Schedule and organize quarterly Community Advisory Council meetings.

• Serve as backup on-air host as needed and contribute to weekly feature recording and editing.
• Assist with special initiatives or projects as assigned.
