Job Summary Chloeta is seeking an experienced Biological Field Technician to support a federal facility in maintaining and ensuring the sustainability of the diverse natural resources of this property, while safeguarding the viability of the overall mission. Supervisory Responsibilities : No Job Classification: Temporary; Part-Time, FSLA Non-Exempt Duty Station : Salina, KS Travel :* *Up to 10% of travel This position is primarily field-based, requiring the employee to perform the majority of duties on-site in outdoor and operational environments rather than in an office setting Duties/Responsibilities Conducts comprehensive Threatened and Endangered (T&E) species surveys Assesses the presence of probable absence of federal and state-listed species and species of concern Informs facility of future land management and restoration activities Identifies any threatened, endangered, or special concern species occurring within the area Supports compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA), state regulations and local environmental ordinances Provides recommendations for protecting potential habitat and species probable for discovery in the area Reviews species lists, habitat types and prior survey data using resources provided Conducts on-site surveys during appropriate seasonal widows Documents all observed species, suitable habitats and notable natural features Conducts comprehensive reports on survey methodology, maps of survey areas and species observations, species lists, habitat descriptions, photographs of key areas Recommends surveys for mitigation, conservation measures, operation changes or additional surveys if warranted This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Required Skills/Abilities Demonstrated experience working with federal and state-listed species in the Great Plains region; survey experience strongly preferred Knowledge of the Endangered Species Act, state wildlife regulations, and ecological survey protocols Proficiency with GIS mapping, GPS devices, and field data collection tools Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce high-quality, detailed environmental reports Ability to work independently in remote outdoor environments and within active training areas, following all safety protocols Education and Experience Required: Associate degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, or a related field Preferre d* :* Minimum of Two (2) years of relevant professional experience conducting threatened and endangered species surveys, habitat assessments, and ecological fieldwork Preferred : Experience with specific species : * Ability to identify birds of the Great Plains by sight and sound * American burying beetle * Lesser Prairie-Chicken Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, or a related field Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and humidity Ability to stand, bend, crouch, and reach for prolonged periods while conducting surveys Pre-employment Requirements Due to the nature of Chloeta’s services, this position is contingent upon completing with a satisfactory outcome some or all of the following pre-employment background screenings: government security clearance, federal and state criminal background checks, drug test (urinalysis), Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, educational history, employment history, and/or credit check.
