Description
The RCP evaluates, cares for and treats patients with deficiencies/abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system upon the receipt of a written order from a qualified provider. The RCP provides education and diagnostic/therapeutic respiratory care. Care is provided to the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population. This position works independently, under the direction of Clinic Manager/Medical Provider.

Responsibilities
Under prescribed protocols, continually assesses and treats patients with a variety of respiratory conditions
Administers pharmacological agents
Performs diagnostic testing which may include but not limited to pulmonary function testing, screenings, cardiac diagnostic testing, electrocardiographic testing, specimen collection, CLIA-waived testing, blood collection and inhaled specialty gas administration, as applicable
Provides emergency medical care such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and artificial respiration
Monitors patients' physiological responses to therapy, included but not limited to vital signs, arterial blood gases, chemistry changes and consults with the provider if adverse reactions/conditions occur
Preceptorship of new employees and students
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider; measures vital signs, and interviews patients to obtain health and medication histories.
Administers medications and immunizations (injectable, oral, topical, aerosol), provides wound care, and personal health interventions at the direction of a provider, as deemed competent
Serve as a communication liaison for the healthcare team
Assists with patient scheduling and follow-up care
Maintains accurate, detailed patient records and charts using an electronic medical record (EMR) system
Maintains a safe and clean work environment by complying with policies and procedures, rules, and regulations.
Other Functions:
Performs other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time
Can involve specific specialties such as pulmonary function testing and sleep medicine
Qualifications
Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Practitioner Program
Required Experience: None
Required License/Certifications: Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Licensed by the Virginia State Board of Medicine to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
Basic Life Support, within 90 days of hire.
If the sleep center is AASM Accredited, accreditation standards include 30 hours of sleep medicine-related education hours per three year term.
Preferred Experience: One-year prior experience as an RCP
Travel Required: Occasionally
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The setting for this role will include the healthcare settings.
Exposure to controlled temperature environments, both hot and cold, is to be expected.
