Environmental Compliance Specialist
Assures the organization continually improves around, and complies with all regulatory, voluntary, and internal environmental standards including air, water, chemical and fire. This position has direct responsibility for three campuses at VELUX Greenwood LLC (Greenwood SC, Wells ME and Sparks NV) and serves as a technical resource to VELUX America LLC including its distribution centers. Included in the role is the implementation of corporate environmental policies, projects, programs, objectives and training, as well as, monitoring, developing programs, processes, procedures and systems to ensure environmental compliance of the Company. This position reports directly to the QHSE Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
Demonstrates proficiency overseeing and administering environmental programs and systems.
• Responsible for air and water monitoring and permitting programs.
• Responsible for ISO14001 certification program.
• Responsible for the Recycling program.
• Responsible for the Waste to Landfill Reduction program.
• Responsible for the administration of the digital SDS system.
• Responsible for the Loss Prevention (fire risk) system.
• Provides record keeping and training for the above responsibilities.
Autonomously reads, interprets and understands written standards (OSHA, EPA, DHEC, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, ISO, OHSAS, etc.) to become proficient in their application and use.
Modifies programs, processes, procedures, operating equipment, and systems as necessary to remain compliant with changing regulations.
Performs routine auditing, inspections and sampling at the site to confirm facility and work are within specification contained in environmental permits. Such inspections include indoor air quality, SW3P, SPCC, permitting, training and other EHS programs/certifications.
Identifies and reports potential compliance violations and recommends potential solutions.
Coordinates response to inspection findings and changes environmental equipment as necessary.
Investigates and mitigates environmental incidences, such as spills or releases, and determines the root cause of each incident.
Provides technical expertise and support to VELUX Greenwood, LLC, VELUX America LLC and its distribution centers.
Provides environmental training to associates.
Conducts environmental audits, routine and non-routine internal and external compliance/conformance reporting and data analysis.
Supports monthly corporate EHS performance and data reporting.
Leads or supports other project assignments in and outside the area of Environmental Health and Safety such as campus wide or facility projects.
Monthly Pay Range: $5,846 - $7,308
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Preference given to CEP or equivalent.
Current working knowledge of SC OSHA and SC DHEC regulations and compliance, as well as an understanding of training and reporting requirements is required.
Good Problem-solving And Decision-making Skills Are Required.
Good time-management, organization, and task prioritization abilities. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, determine project urgency and create detailed action plans.
Good Communication Skills, Both Oral And Written Are Required.
Good interpersonal skills demonstrating a proficiency in conflict resolution/negotiation at all levels within an organization.
Ability to lead cross-functional team meetings is required.
Must be proficient in the use of Windows and Microsoft’s full suite of office products.
Must project a positive and professional image.
This position may require some overnight travel to sites across the US and potentially weeklong travel to Europe on occasion.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with no major violations.
