Working both independently and as part of a team, this employee will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Commercial Kitchen Equipment. This includes cooking, refrigeration, ware-washing, and other specialty food services equipment. The role of this employee is critical to keeping a safe and operational kitchen environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform repairs on kitchen equipment at University dining facilities. Some of the kitchen equipment includes, but is not limited to stoves, convection ovens, combi-ovens and toasters, dish machines, ware-washing, steamers, commercial exhaust hoods, supply and make-up air units, slicers, soup wells, fryers, coffee machines, hot plates, and holding cabinets.
• Install new, complex kitchen equipment.
• Monitor inventory, as well as ensuring that tools and equipment are maintained properly.
• Carry out periodic inspections, cleaning, and equipment servicing.
• Adhere to safety procedures, utilize personal protective equipment when necessary, and report any potential hazards to Supervisor immediately.
• Respond quickly to emergency calls on equipment repair issues, as well as after work hour calls and occasional attendance at special events, which may include nights and weekends.
• Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and managers to ensure repairs and maintenance or done conveniently, minimizing disruption to operations.
• Log into the computerized work order management system to find, accept, and complete work requests.
• Follow the University's procurement procedures and standards when obtaining needed parts or contracted repair services.
• Staying up to date with existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services, and leading industry performance benchmarks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Tier 1 • High School diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years experience with commercial kitchen equipment maintenance supplemented by vocational training in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Tier 2 • High School diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years experience with commercial kitchen equipment maintenance supplemented by vocational training in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• Relevant technical training, licenses, and/or certifications (i.e. EPA, CFESA)
Tier 3 • High School diploma or equivalent
• 8+ years experience with commercial kitchen equipment maintenance supplemented by vocational training in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• Relevant technical training, licenses, and/or certifications (i.e. EPA, CFESA)
Qualifications
Tier 1 • Strong understanding of appliance mechanics and working knowledge of how each component in kitchen equipment functions is essential.
• Considerable knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, plumbing, gas, water, kitchen hood equipment, and fixtures and knowledge of the hand or power tools needed to perform repairs. Hand tools are to be provided by the employee.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite
Tier 2 • Strong understanding of appliance mechanics and working knowledge of how each component in kitchen equipment functions is essential.

Communication and Comprehension • Ability to read and interpret schematics and diagrams to assist in repairs and installations, as well as performing diagnostics and troubleshoot as needed. Must also be able to disassemble and reassemble equipment to replace and/or remove defective components.
• Ability to work in a team setting with other maintenance workers, as well as other University staff, and members of the public, while also being able to resolve issues and prioritize tasks independently using good judgment and initiative.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position include both indoor and outdoor locations. This position requires the ability to work in a variety of settings, including but not limited to inside refrigeration units, outdoors in different weather conditions, tight spaces that may be dusty, and an office setting for typing reports.
Driving Requirements
If the employee is required to travel in performing the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel. Proof of a valid driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee's position.
