Job Title : Licensed Practical Nurse (1:1 for Special Education)
Terms of Employment : 175 days
Pay Grade : 115 (175 days)
Job Summary
To provide student-specific health services and leadership in establishing safe nursing care to children in a school setting, consistent with Board of Nursing regulations and local School Board policy. Work with a specific child or children to meet their medical needs during the school day.
Essential Duties
• Understands the student's medical condition, health care plan, and specific needs.
• Monitors and assesses the student's health status, identifying changes in signs or symptoms and responding with appropriate interventions.
• Administers medications and performs physician-ordered procedures under the supervision of a registered school nurse, seeking clarification when necessary.
• Provides daily medical care and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) throughout the school day and, if required, during transportation to and from school.
• Performs physical assessments (e.g., vital signs), provides first aid, emergency care, and chronic condition management.
• Maintains accurate documentation, health records, and confidentiality.
• Collaborates and communicates with the supervising registered nurse, school staff, parents/guardians, and physicians to ensure continuity of care.
• Participates in the development, implementation, and review of the student's health care plan.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and organized care environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or the Supervisor of Health Services.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health
Professionals and experience as a licensed practical nurse. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Nurse Supervisor or School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
