Description
Position Summary:
National EMS is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented dispatcher to support our communications operations. Dispatchers coordinate both emergency and non-emergency medical transport services and serve as the central point of communication between patients, field crews, and healthcare facilities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and effective in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.
New employees begin with a 90-day performance evaluation period, with continued support and feedback beyond that point. Schedule flexibility and adaptability are essential, as EMS operations can shift based on community needs, staffing, or system demands.
Dispatchers report directly to the communications supervisor, who oversees day-to-day performance and scheduling, and who reports to the communications manager. Uniforms are required and provided by National EMS.
12-hour rotating shifts; subject to change based on operational needs
Reports To: Communications Supervisor
Key Responsibilities
• Call intake and triage: Receive and prioritize incoming calls based on urgency and service needs
• Dispatch operations: Monitor unit activity, maintain radio communication, and ensure accurate, timely dispatch of transport crews
• Resource planning: Use scheduling tools and prescheduled call information to manage daily operations and shift coverage
• Documentation and reporting: Maintain shift logs, update transition notes, and assist with tracking call volume and service metrics
• Policy compliance: Adhere to dispatch protocols, communication standards, and internal procedures
• Shift handover: Provide clear, accurate shift change updates to ensure operational continuity
• Crew support: Monitor unit safety, provide directions or logistical updates, and assist field crews as needed
• System monitoring: Utilize GPS and dispatch software to track units and optimize response times
• Interagency communication: Coordinate with hospitals, facilities, and other service providers when appropriate
• Problem solving: Respond to changing circumstances and operational challenges with practical solutions
• Confidentiality: Maintain privacy and handle sensitive information in accordance with regulations
• Professionalism: Remain composed and professional, especially during high-stress or emergency situations
Compensation And Development
• Starting salary: $31,460/year (includes overtime), DOE

Qualifications
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to multitask and manage priorities under pressure
• Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience in dispatch, EMS, public safety, or related fields is preferred but not required
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on short notice
