Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Field – Lead onion pre-breeding and breeding research to generate segregating populations. Subsequently identify promising center rot resistance lines that are adapted in short-day environment.
Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities
Greenhouse – Lead disease screening against center rot. Assist the internal collaborators with genome edited mutants screening against center rot.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Laboratory – Assist in post-harvest bulb quality analysis, lead marker assisted selection, and genomic selection activities related to QTL mapping.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Prepare peer-reviewed publications, participate in grant proposal preparation, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and seasonal workers research activities in lab, greenhouse, and field set up.

• Lead onion breeding and pre-breeding research in START-UP SETTING since it is relatively new breeding program and it is TIME DEMANDING.
• Demonstrated knowledge of onion breeding methods, designing onion breeding blocks and setting up onion pre-breeding experiments.
• Handle and operate molecular biology, high-throughput phenotyping equipments and tools.
• Understand statistical/biometrics principles to be applied in breeding research.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Interest in collaborative research and work in multicultural team.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification In Position
PhD in Plant Breeding or equivalent topic
Prior experience in ONION BREEDING is NEEDED, and preferable to have demonstrated experience in disease resistance screening, genomic selection, and wet lab research.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
• Proficiency in script writing using Python or R.
• Prior experience in setting up cages for onion breeding crosses, making sure to make timely crosses, collect relevant phenotypic data, and analyze breeding data.
• Ability to analyze and interpret metabolomics, and transcriptomics data.
• Ability to utilize genomic selection to identify novel QTLs from biparental mapping populations.
Physical Demands
• We are looking for highly dedicated team member who would share our vision since this is a new breeding program and it is sort of a START-UP so it is very TIME DEMANDING.
• We are looking for someone who is Go Getter and ready to take the challenge to complete the assigned task.
• During the peak of the season, we work on the weekends and long hours to get things done.
• Operating motor vehicles for job duties as needed.
