(SY 25-26) Visual Arts Teacher GENERAL INFORMATION Title: (SY 25-26) Visual Arts Teacher Department: Heritage High School Salary Grade: Teacher- 10-month Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt Site/Location: Heritage High School Reports to: Building Administrator Date: 06/30/2025 POSITION SUMMARY To develop and implement an art educational program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each child. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Teach knowledge and skills in art, including sculpture, ceramics, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, photography, art history, computer graphics, and three-dimensional art to students. Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative and critical judgments about art. Provide differentiated instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with varying intellectual and artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities. Establish and maintain a level of student behavior for an orderly and productive learning environment. Evaluate each student’s progress in performance and growth in knowledge, skill, and aesthetic understandings. Plan and display art exhibitions designed to exhibit student work for the school and community. Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, and other materials. Maintain inventory records of all art materials. Be comfortable working and maintaining a kiln, or be willing to learn how to operate a kiln. Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to art education. Maintain open lines of communication with other professional staff members related to student performance. Communicate with parents, counselors, and classroom teachers to effectively report student progress. Be eligible for, or in possession of, a Virginia Teacher's License with appropriate endorsement. Have knowledge of developmental theories in relation to art and cognition. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working in a school setting. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Computer graphics, commercial art, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
