Part-time Circulation Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY: Front-line user support services, including circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, scanner support, and other library operations, including collection development support and research support services; building manager on duty during evening and weekend shifts when Circulation Manager is not present.
Workdays are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Hours are 5:00 to 11:00 pm.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Circulation & User Information Services: (70%)
1. Performs all duties related to charging and discharging library materials according to established policies and procedures.
2. Assists in the creation, maintenance, and updating of circulation records and patron files. Answers patron questions about their records.
3. Assists patrons in the use of the library catalog, including searching, renewals, and questions about individual titles.
4. Assists patrons in the use of research tools, including navigation of the library website, and navigation of library subscription databases and other research resources.
5. Responds to phone, email, chat/text, and in-person user enquiries. Answers or refers questions as needed.
6. Opens and closes the library according to established procedures.
7. Shares responsibility for recordkeeping and statistics related to user information services
8. Fulfills duties of the Circulation Manager in the Manager’s or Assistant Manager’s absence.
Stacks Maintenance: (5%)
9. Conducts stacks maintenance activities including shelving, shifting, and shelf reading.
Reserves: (5%)
10. Assists in maintenance of the reserves section of the library, including handling special circulation needs.
Supervision: (10%)
11. Supervises student workers when the circulation manager is not present.
12. Assists in training, supervising, and evaluating service point student staff.
Other: (10%)
13. Assists with special library projects
14. Assists with facilities maintenance
15. Assists with scanning and printing services
16. Serves as back up to other library personnel as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
• Associate’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Familiarity with personal computers and peripherals for desktop applications.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work flexibly and creatively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to enhance and support a diverse learning and working environment.
Preferred Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Educational background in Studio Art, Design, Art History, or Humanities discipline
• One year of experience in library setting or equivalent customer services work environment
• Supervisory experience
• Both PC and Mac expertise
PHYSICAL:
• Ability to work with computers, both visually and dexterously.
• Hearing and speaking abilities to communicate effectively with patrons while serving on the circulation and reference desks.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and reach shelving heights up to six feet with ladder assistance.
