The Department of Juvenile Services is seeking a Building Maintenance Supervisor. This position supervises and coordinates the activities of skilled trade employees and other workers engaged in a variety of mechanical, electrical and building maintenance activities. Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
• Plans, coordinates, performs, assigns and oversees the repair, maintenance, and construction of buildings and other structures, facilities and related equipment in performing general electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, masonry and painting work.
• Investigates citizen and user complaints regarding the general building condition.
• Receives requests and makes recommendations for service for special, emergency and/or unscheduled work.
• Coordinates the use of available equipment, materials and manpower to obtain maximum effectiveness and economy.
• Assists department in monitoring of the facility maintenance budget and making recommendations for short and long range equipment and building maintenance needs.
• Maintains tool and equipment inventories and ensure staff maintains an organized work vehicle.
• Manages the requisitions of necessary equipment, materials and supplies. Maintains records regarding routine and preventative maintenance work orders.
• Tracks work order information including work hours, material cost, task performed, and the assignment of work orders to staff.
• Inspects work orders performed by staff and outside contractors. Check for conformance to code, meeting the scope of work, and meet the timeline for completion of the work order request.
• Instructs staff on safety and practices of the trade; disciplines staff and enforces department policy and procedures.
• Works emergency duty on short notice as required. Respond to emergencies such as snow, flood, wind storms, etc.
• Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
• When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Directly supervises assigned staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Journey-level knowledge in at least one of the major trade areas (plumbing, electrical HVAC).
• Supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must obtain Refrigerant Reclaim EPA certification.
Additional Requirements
• Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria .
• Relevant background checks must be completed and approved.
• Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.  May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
