Lynchburg Circuit Court Clerk's Office is seeking an energetic, hard-working individual for a full-time position as Deputy Clerk assigned primarily to the Criminal Division. Must be knowledgeable in computer applications and have strong typing skills. Excellent customer service skills and a dedication to the office and customers you serve. Some legal experience is preferred but not required.
Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Virginia Retirement System (VRS), Paid Time Off (40 hours leave bank upon hire), Maternity/Paternity Leave, and $2,000 signing bonus (contractual).
Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Responsible for select courtroom duties to include working jury trials; preparing and transporting case files to court, typing, processing and scanning court orders, cataloging exhibits and preserving, preparing commitment cards for inmates;
• Responsible for sealing and expungement of select records;
• File stamp, file motions, file letters and subpoenas issued by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office;
• Set up all criminal felony, misdemeanor and bond paperwork that comes into the office, which includes scanning all paperwork;
• Issue summons, rules, capias' and witness subpoenas;
• Completing juror-related responsibilities: preparing juror packets for term, preparing juror lists and distributing to attorneys, updating jury line as needed, responding to juror questions and issues;
• Answering phone calls from the public, attorneys, and court officers;
• Accept the filing of search warrants by law enforcement officers;
• Respond to record requests and certify;
• Date stamp mail for the Civil Division;
• Pull files as needed for the Criminal and Civil Divisions;
• Assists the civil division on occasion;
•  Accept fines, costs, and restitution payments as needed;
• Any other work asked of by the supervisor or clerk.
Additional Duties:
When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Education and Experience Required QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education, Experience and Technical Skills
Graduation from high school and a minimal of 2 years of general administrative support work experience preferred. Demonstrates intermediate Microsoft Office skills. Familiar with office equipment.
Additional Requirements Additional Requirements
Depending on work assignment, may be required to obtain Notary Public license.
• Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
• Relevant background checks must be completed and approved.
Physical Demands
Will be regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and to use fingers and hands to operate equipment and to gather, sort, and process documents,
Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds,
Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a courtroom/office with moderate noise,
Must work extremely well in a team environment,
Must be able to multitask.
