Controls & Automation Engineer (DCS / HMI / ABB 800xA) – Baltimore | Remote Hybrid
Pay Rate: ~ +/- $48–$55/hr (higher potential depending on experience & education)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (occasional field hours)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire or CTH (based on candidate preference)
Work Environment: Hybrid – Work from home with regular onsite presence at a treatment facility in Baltimore, MD
Position Overview:
An established engineering firm is seeking a Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Software Engineer to support ongoing and upcoming control systems projects at a major water/wastewater treatment facility in Baltimore. This individual will contribute to both project and service efforts, developing and maintaining control systems using ABB DCS 800xA .
Key Responsibilities:
• Programming, configuring, and troubleshooting within ABB DCS 800xA
• HMI development and customization
• Supporting ongoing system maintenance and service onsite
• Assisting with implementation of new control processes and system upgrades
• Working closely with plant personnel and engineering teams to deliver high-quality automation solutions
Required Qualifications:
• Hands-on experience with ABB DCS 800xA or similar DCS platforms (e.g., DeltaV)
• Ability to develop control software and HMIs from scratch
• Availability to report onsite in Baltimore, as needed (hybrid work structure)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in water/wastewater treatment or related process industries
• 2–4 year degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Exposure to Allen-Bradley PLC systems
