Exciting Opportunity:
We are looking for a highly skilled Release Manager to join our team supporting the DOMEX Technology Platform (DTP) and DOMEX Data Discovery Platform (D3P) Modernization program . This program focuses on leveraging cloud-based computing , artificial intelligence (AI) , machine learning (ML) , and cross-domain transfer systems to provide cutting-edge data exploitation, enrichment, triage, and analytics capabilities to the Defense and Intelligence Community.
As our next Release Manager , you will play a critical role in the design, engineering, development , and deployment of software for these platforms. D3P is advancing the state of the art in mission-focused big data analytics tools , with an emphasis on continuous delivery—from sprint-level tasks to long-term R&D efforts.
Role Overview:
You will provide both technical and administrative oversight , managing the full release management lifecycle for the D3P system. Working closely with Systems Engineers, Software Engineers , Architects , and Operations Engineering/Manager , as well as government counterparts, you will be responsible for managing tasks such as requirements tracking, release cycle management, release notes , system integration , testing , production deployment planning , and leading the deployment process.
While most of the work will be conducted on-site in Bethesda, MD , we offer a flexible schedule with some remote work depending on client requirements and deliverables.
Responsibilities:
As Release Manager , you will:
• Manage the entire software release process to successfully deploy releases through the CI/CD pipeline.
• Lead software release meetings , coordinating with system integration teams to ensure timely delivery of products.
• Understand software features to plan for current and upcoming releases.
• Document release rollout plans, tasks, risks , and maintain schedules for each release.
• Hold regular release meetings (tag-ups/scrums) and document actions, status, and outcomes.
• Track action items across program teams to keep everyone on schedule.
• Generate work tickets for release tasks and assign them to team members.
• Participate in program increment planning , scrum of scrums , bug triage , and other pertinent meetings.
• Coordinate with test teams to ensure thorough testing of releases and hotfixes.
• Collaborate with software development team leads, configuration managers , and program managers on release management activities.
• Establish and improve release processes , performing process improvements and documenting them.
• Report release status to PMO and customers as required.
• Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation and models/diagrams in coordination with Lead Systems Engineers.
• Contribute to the establishment of SE processes and tools for analysis, risk assessment, integration, and test preparation.
• Lead Agile ceremonies with the development team.
• Assist in resolving technical issues that negatively impact the product’s delivery.
• Identify and support external dependencies as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you must have:
• BS in Engineering , Computer Science , Systems Engineering , or a related field, with 8+ years of experience in software development , release management , system engineering , or related fields.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a polygraph .
• 4+ years of experience working as a Software Release Manager , Release Train Engineer , or Agile Product Owner .
• Proven experience in the release management cycle , including managing hotfixes, defect tracking, and production operations.
• Strong experience in documenting releases , risks, and maintaining release schedules .
• Experience in leading software release meetings and overseeing team execution to deliver products on time.
• Familiarity with key Agile processes (e.g., Scrum) and techniques.
• Experience facilitating scrum ceremonies (Planning, Retrospectives, Backlog Refinement & Reviews/Demos).
• Proficiency with ticketing and documentation tools like Gitlab , Jira , and Confluence .
• Strong knowledge of systems engineering concepts , processes, and applying these to software-intensive systems.
• Familiarity with GitFlow development model .
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools (e.g., Gitlab , Jenkins , Bamboo ).
• Experience in leading technical teams .
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with testers, systems engineers, architects, and management.
Preferred Qualifications:
We would be even more impressed if you have:
• Software development/coding experience with programming languages like Python , Java , and React .
• Experience with data processing in relevant domains.
• Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certification or similar.
• Experience with creating design packages and workflow development .
