Job Description
The Communications and Marketing Manager plays a key role in advancing the University of South Florida's strategic priorities and elevating the university's national reputation. Based at the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus , this in-person role is part of the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) team and works closely with peers across the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee campuses to ensure alignment and consistency across the USF brand and support USF's position as a top research institution.
This position blends compelling storytelling, media relations, digital content creation, and strategic communication. The ideal candidate brings the mindset and technical abilities of a multimedia journalist who is able to take a story from concept to final product by writing compelling content and capturing supporting photos, video, and other media to bring the story to life across multiple platforms and enhance the university's visibility.
Responsibilities
Multimedia Storytelling
• Serve as a multimedia journalist by writing, editing, and capturing content (photos/video) to create fully developed stories suitable for web, newsletters, social media, print and other channels.
• Ensure stories include engaging visuals and multimedia elements to enhance audience impact and broaden reach.
Content Development
• Write creative, brand-consistent content for news articles, press releases, websites, magazines, presentations, and social media.
• Coordinate the distribution of content across platforms, including email newsletters, web pages, and digital signage.
Media Relations & Publicity
• Respond to media inquiries and proactively pitch stories to secure positive coverage for the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus.
• Coordinate press kits, editorial calendars, media lists, and analytics reporting to inform future story development.
Strategic Communications
• Work alongside campus leaders and UCM colleagues across all three campuses to develop and implement communications strategies aligned with institutional goals.
• Contribute to the university's crisis communications planning and execution.
Digital & Editorial Oversight
• Manage news content on https://www.sarasotamanatee.usf.edu/ ensuring timely updates and alignment with USF's brand and messaging.
• Assist in editorial planning and contribute to university publications
• Provide proofreading, editing, and quality assurance across digital and print materials.
Performs other duties as assigned.
