By joining our Daviess County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Daviess County, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field training to allow for continued education to become specialized in road & construction maintenance & operations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Haul materials to and from job sites, operate tractor-type mowing machines, operate dump-truck with snow plow to clear roadways in winter months.
• Flag traffic in work zone, set up work zones, fill potholes.
• Pick up debris from roadways, set out roadway signs.
• Perform minor repairs & maintenance on equipment.
• Work in all types of weather and as a team, work emergency call outs as needed.
Ideal candidate will have experience in:
• Experience in equipment operations.
• Minor repairs and maintenance.
• Working on rough terrain and changing climates.
• Working with a team.

Additional position information (travel required, standing/stooping/bending/lifting, sitting at a desk, etc.) Be able to lift 50 lbs, work on rough terrain, around various types of equipment, be able to twist, bend, stoop, stand. Must be able to work extended hours and in all weather elements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
