Transportation and Planning Internship Program
Position Overview/Scope
The Planning Intern will play a crucial role in designing and managing key projects while providing support for other department initiatives as needed. Working closely with the Planning & Research Manager, the intern will contribute to developing and implementing ongoing plans and strategies. Responsibilities include conducting research, analyzing data, preparing reports, and assisting with project coordination. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in transportation and planning. Make a meaningful impact on improving Tampa's Downtown in a fun environment.
Essential Job Duties
• Manage a key department project, conducting research, analysis, reporting, and the implementation process.
• Monitor and report all City of Tampa, FDOT planned & proposed road work within Downtown.
• Create presentations, graphics, and reports that depict work projects and programs.
• Express ideas clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, to a variety of audience.s
Example of Possible Projects
• Help lead the annual parking inventory and occupancy program. Working with parking operators, employers, and property managers to understand the parking market of Downtown Tampa.
• Manage the promotion and recognition of historic downtown properties and places. Creating material such as pamphlets, community events, and awareness campaigns.
• Enhance Downtown micromobility by overseeing bike rack placement/relocation and coordinating between shared vehicle operators.

Required Education, Experience, and Competencies
• Must be an active student enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Economics, Public Administration, Communications, Political Science, or a related field within the Tampa Bay Region.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and Outlook.
• Able to work independently and as a team.
• Work between 10 and 15 hours weekly. Ability to increase hours depending on the preference of both the intern and the employer.
• Must have access to reliable internet, computer, and the ability to work either remotely or in the office. Position is hybrid.
Compensation
The Planning Intern position is paid at a rate of $15 per hour. Transportation benefits and stipends to be negotiated. The expected completion date is December 2025, with the potential to extend until Spring/Fall 2026.
