Casualty Underwriter
We are seeking a dynamic and seasoned Executive Casualty Underwriter to join our team. As an Executive Casualty Underwriter, you will be at the forefront of developing, managing, and nurturing a profitable portfolio in primary casualty business. This role not only emphasizes building robust relationships with wholesale producers, agents, and brokers but also focuses on delivering exceptional underwriting results that align with our strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
New Business Development:
- Cultivate a collaborative relationship with producers within designated territories to ensure a steady flow of high-quality submissions.
- Leverage advanced prioritization tools to select optimal submissions based on predictive analytics, loss history, and third-party data.
- Define optimal pricing, structure, and coverage terms while adhering to the company's underwriting guidelines and appetite.
- Enhance producer engagement by actively communicating our product offerings, contributing to a strong brand presence.
- Aid in the marketing strategy by providing insights on market trends and competitor products.
- Gather insights from peers and higher-level underwriters to make informed decisions on individual risks and terms.
- Assess the performance of newly underwritten business, facilitating successful outcomes.
Renewal Management:
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of in-force business to determine appropriate renewal strategies.
- Proactively prepare renewal quotes ahead of deadlines to align with producers' and retail needs. - Maintain transparent communication with producers regarding renewal expectations and potential changes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements concerning renewals/non-renewals and collaborate with the compliance team as needed.
- Seek mentorship from senior underwriters regarding individual renewals, pricing, and terms.
General Underwriting Duties:
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills and profound knowledge of underwriting principles, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Track production and profitability goals for your book of business while staying informed of industry trends.
- Build expertise in specific lines of business aligned with our underwriting appetite.
- Regularly travel to engage with producers and sustain strategic relationships.
- Support fellow team members through collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing.
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial primary casualty lines, pricing models, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical capabilities and sound judgment in risk assessment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting stringent deadlines.
- Thrives in a team-oriented environment with a proactive demeanor.
- Proficient in computer systems and adept at utilizing proprietary software.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
• Required: minimum of 8+ years of commercial primary casualty underwriting experience, combined with sound knowledge of commercial primary casualty underwriting coverages.
• Required: A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university, with a major or coursework in insurance, risk management, economics, actuarial science or related fields.
• A Plus: CPCU or other relevant insurance-related designations.
