SUMMARY STATEMENT
Â
The Performing Arts Shop Assistant supports the daily operations of the performing arts at HCC through job duties that include: inventory management and purchasing, work space organization, event support and basic clothing alterations. This role is ideal for someone with a desire to work in supporting theater activities as needed, organizational skills and who is eager to contribute to both the creative and logistical aspects of a performing arts area.

Please note, this is a part-time position for 20 hours per week.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
A. The Performing Arts Assistant reports directly and is responsible to the Theater Technician
Â
B. The Performing Arts Assistant coordinates closely with the Director of the English & Humanities Division, Art/Theater Assistant, HU Division Office Associate, and faculty from Theater and Dance departments.

C. This position requires working in conjunction with assigned student workers.

DUTIES
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory; pull items from inventory as needed to support performance needs. Complete purchasing process as needed with the guidance of show designer and Theater Technician.  Â
• Assist with periodic inventory audits and restocking of consumable items
• Facilitate external rentals, including check-out/check-in procedures
• Provide backstage support during tech rehearsals and performances as needed
• Responsible for the cleanliness, organization, and safety of dressing rooms, storage spaces and related areas.
• Support general shop tasks and special projects as assigned; fabric maintenance including laundry, steaming, and sanitizing of theater show items
• Serve as additional technical support for events as needed
• Assist with basic clothing maintenance.Â
EDUCATION
High School diploma, Associates Degree is preferred, theater experience preferred.

Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Willingness to learn and take initiative.

Basic knowledge of sewing techniquesÂ

Familiarity with theater production processes and backstage etiquette a plus!Â

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
Valid driver license

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
A.  Community College theater and performing arts spaces including dressing area, theater spaces, and storage spaces.
B.  Work schedule is twenty (20) hours per week with some evenings and weekends
C. Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds on occasion
