Job Title: Special Education IND/ASD Self-Contained Teacher
Location: Myakka City Elementary School, Myakka City, FL
Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Contract
Reports To: School Principal
Job Summary: Myakka City Elementary School is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Special Education Teacher to lead a self-contained classroom serving students with Intellectual Disabilities (IND) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will create a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment tailored to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students with exceptionalities.
Key Responsibilities: • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, support staff, and related service providers.
• Design and deliver differentiated instruction aligned with Florida Standards and adapted to meet each student’s unique learning needs.
• Utilize evidence-based strategies and assistive technology to support communication, behavior, and academic growth.
• Foster a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes independence and positive behavior.
• Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals, and families to ensure continuity of services and support.
• Provide supervision and guidance to classroom paraprofessionals and support staff.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and IEP meetings as required.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
• Valid Florida Teaching Certificate in Exceptional Student Education (ESE) K–12.
• Endorsements in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or experience working with students with IND/ASD preferred.
• Strong understanding of behavioral interventions, sensory integration, and communication supports (e.g., PECS, AAC).
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Work Environment: • Self-contained classroom setting with a low student-to-teacher ratio.
