The Cost Accounting Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting management’s ability to improve efficiency and profitability by analyzing and reporting on financial data of manufacturing operations to determine the cost of producing goods, how those actual costs compare to standard costs, and identifying/managing cost variances.
Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities
• Improve, standardize, and document cost practice methodology across the organization to drive consistency and efficiency through use of independent analysis and collaboration with related stakeholders.
• Use analytical tools (queries from different databases) to extract and analyze cost data.
• Assist in the business unit’s annual standard cost calculation with intent to transition into an ownership role.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to establish and monitor standard product costs.
• Deliver detailed cost insights to assess the financial viability of new business opportunities by analyzing complex and unique business scenarios.
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes with detailed cost and margin analysis.
• Provide support as needed for annual business plan and forecasts by providing individual expertise and through collaboration with other related stakeholders.
• Assist in capital expenditure justification.
• Maintain and improve internal controls related to cost accounting.
• Provide costing and analytical support to various stakeholders.
• Participate in manufacturing site physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy.
• Assist with monthly close, providing commentary on variances and other financial activity; compile and post journal entries; reconcile accounts; and submit financial results to leadership and parent company.
• Analyze manufacturing standard cost variances and inventory reserves through individual analysis and interaction with plant controllers and production team members.
• Provide daily and weekly financial and operational metrics for multiple manufacturing sites.
• Provide temporary support for plant controller responsibilities as needed.
• Travel is required primarily between SC and GA with initial expectation of 30% - 50% with long term travel 10% - 30%
Education and Experience Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field
• 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment as an accountant, financial analyst or senior cost accountant.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting Ability to interpret financial data, cost trends, and manufacturing efficiency metrics while ensuring IFRS compliance
• Strong critical thinking skills and desire to improve processes
• Ability to independently and collaboratively analyze complex data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks
• Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases a plus

• Experience with Oracle ERP
• Experience standardizing costing methods
• Power BI - integration with Excel
