Coordinator Trauma Registry PI

Position Summary
The Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator/ Trauma Abstractor plays a critical role in enhancing patient outcomes by overseeing and coordinating the trauma program’s performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) initiatives. This position ensures continuous quality improvement by monitoring clinical outcomes, analyzing data, and facilitating evidence-based changes in trauma care processes. The Coordinator collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, including trauma surgeons, emergency department staff, nursing, and administration, to meet regulatory standards and achieve optimal patient care. This position will also include spending part of their time abstracting trauma patients in the trauma registry.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage trauma-related performance improvement and patient safety initiatives in accordance with ACS (American College of Surgeons) guidelines and state trauma regulations.
• Coordinate and conduct regular trauma case reviews and multidisciplinary performance improvement meetings.
• Identify opportunities for improvement through data collection, trend analysis, and benchmarking.
• Maintain and analyze trauma registry data to evaluate trauma outcomes and identify system-level improvements.
• Develop and implement action plans for identified issues and track progress on interventions.
• Collaborate with trauma program leadership to prepare for trauma center designation and verification visits.
• Ensure documentation compliance for performance improvement activities, root cause analyses, and peer review processes.
• Serve as a liaison with internal departments and external partners to support quality trauma care initiatives.
• Educate staff on trauma standards, evidence-based practices, and improvement strategies.
Education And Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or healthcare-related field required; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in trauma, critical care, emergency, or quality improvement.
• Prior experience in a trauma program or performance improvement role highly desirable.
Certifications
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN preferred.
• CSTR, CAISS, or other trauma registry certifications a plus.
• Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement certification preferred.
Skills And Abilities
• Strong knowledge of trauma system standards and quality improvement methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficient in trauma registry software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Special Qualifications
