Job SummaryOccupational Therapist ("OT") evaluates and treats patients, communicates with their families, physicians, and other health team members, maintains all necessary documentation of services in the patient's medical records, and coordinates patient discharges. Treatments will include training in daily living activities, functional skills, motor development, compensation techniques, use of adaptive equipment and splinting. OT will also test and evaluate patients' physical and mental abilities, analyze rehabilitation goals, and consult with the rehab team in order to coordinate the most effective occupational therapy program.Responsibilities and DutiesEssential Responsibilities and ExpectationsEvaluate patients promptly, and per facility policies and expectations, upon receiving physician referral for treatmentDevelop effective treatment plansObtain approval for services from referring physicianTreat patients according to treatment plan approved by physicianCommunicate regularly with supervisor, other members of the rehabilitation team, and family regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and prognosisRecord evaluations, daily treatment notes, re-assessments, and discharge summaries per Company policy and procedureComplete all required documentation from your daily treatments/interventions prior to leaving the facilityEducate patient families and caregivers in treatment and any applicable maintenance programsParticipate in discharge planningSecure necessary durable medical equipment (e.g., orthoses, grab bars, standers, wheelchairs, etc.) for patients to facilitate independenceSubmit all billing and necessary information prior to leaving the facilitySupervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant ("COTA") and Rehab Administrative Assistant ("RAA") appropriately (1 OT to 2 COTAs and 1 OT to 1 RAA)Report any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately Comply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelinesComply with Company rules, policies, and proceduresComply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and proceduresReport to work regularly and on-time Additional Responsibilities and ExpectationsBe willing and able to act as a Mentor for new OT/COTA or recently hired OT/COTA Provide necessary training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including:Supervise level 1 and level 2 students regularlyProviding clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students' academic programsInforming student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students' academic program Providing clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students' academic programsInforming student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines, and Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students' academic program Assumes other duties as assigned.DISCLAIMER: If you are fluent in another language, when and if needed you will also provide assistance in the following translation tasks:Reading, writing, creating, editing documentsAttending evaluations/progress reports/and treatments to provide translation between provider and patient/caregiverAnswering phones and translating caller needsOther translation needs when necessaryPhysical and Mental RequirementsThese physical and mental demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the OT.
