Job Description
This position reports to the Operations Manager. The Kaizen Leader will facilitate corporate improvement projects, lean projects including kaizen events, and perform statistical analysis. This position will utilize problem-solving techniques, analytical thinking, and interpersonal
dynamics.
Primary Responsibilities
• Work with all levels of the company to drive continual improvement in products and processes
• Utilize Quality and Lean tools as appropriate to drive improvement: Kaizen, DMAIC, PDCA, Value stream mapping, FMEA, Pareto, Poka-yoke, 5-Why, 8D, 6S, Behavior analysis, time studies, etc.
• Analyze data with standard statistical methods, interpret the results, and provide written/graphical summary of data analyses
• In support of managed projects: assist in the application and adoption to manufacturing
• Educates and coaches teams on application of Kaizen process and tools
• Work with leadership to assess current baselines and determine the framework processes to be improved
• Support simplification of the complex processes and manage cross-functional relationships to support business impact.
• Provide key output data, metrics and presentations for reporting, operations reviews and business communications.
• Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
• Black Belt in Six Sigma or similar training
• Knowledge of root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma and/or equivalent quality training
• 2+ years of experience performing Kaizen events
• 5+ years of manufacturing experience
• Working knowledge of Lean and Quality tools
• Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control
• Ability to lead teams or projects achieving desired results on schedule
• Ability to work well with limited supervision and complete projects in a timely manner
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Ability to process and communicate information using Microsoft Office software
• Advanced ability in Excel, or applicable analytical software
• Must have a competitive spirit and willingness to learn
• Must have the ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally without restriction and, upon request prior to travel, must be able to provide any documentation that may be required by the country of destination
• Must meet ITAR definition of US Person(s)- documentation required
• MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment testing will be required.
Preferable Experience
• Master’s Degree in relevant field
• Knowledge of aerospace quality standards including AS9100
Physical Demands/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, move throughout the facility, utilize common office computers and hardware, and communicate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 37 pounds unassisted. The noise level in the work environment may be loud, which includes the shop environment. Must be able to use required personal protective equipment.
