Chemist for Water-Based Adhesives Development
Our client, an innovative and customer focused company based in Greenville, is seeking a Water-Based Adhesives Development Scientist to join their high-performing R&D team!
In this role, you will design, formulate, and test novel water-based adhesive systems to meet diverse industry needs - from packaging and converting to construction and automotive. This is an on-site position in Greenville, SC.
Responsibilities:
• Design and develop water-based adhesive formulations (emulsions, dispersions, polymer systems) for multiple end-use applications
• Conduct physical and chemical testing (viscosity, peel/shear strength, tack, stability) to validate performance against customer and industry standards
• Lead R&D projects from lab concept through scale-up and commercialization
• Collaborate with sales, procurement, and manufacturing teams to translate customer requirements into viable adhesive solutions
• Maintain detailed records of formulations, test results, and project progress; prepare technical reports and presentations
• Stay current on advancements in water-based chemistries, raw materials, and relevant regulations (REACH, EPA)
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
• 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in water-based adhesive formulation (PVA, VAE, acrylics, polyurethanes)
• Proficiency with lab equipment such as rheometers, tensile testers, and coating applicators
• Strong understanding of adhesive testing standards (ASTM, ISO)
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication for cross-functional collaboration
• Agile, curious mindset with a drive to continuously improve adhesive performance
• Customer-focused and process-oriented, adept at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced R&D setting
