Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter Technology’s wrought and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing.Technician IV - R&DPrimary Responsibilities for the Technician IV - R&D:Assists metallurgists, engineers and internal/external customers in conducting their experimental programs by performing various analyses, collecting and evaluating the data and communicating the results.Set up, operate and maintain various pieces of equipment and make repairs as needed. Perform assigned tasks in a timely, accurate and cost effective manner. Suggest possible modifications of procedures to improve the productivity of preparation and analysis methods or maintain complete and accurate records, data books and other required documentation. Prepare test reports and other written reports and other required documentation. Works with a “continuous improvement” mindset within the framework of outlined methods in the most efficient manner so that accurate and precise results will be consistently obtained. Develops and leads the training of designated individuals in the skills needed to operate equipment and perform various tasks. Coaches, mentors and answers technical questions from less experienced Technicians. Follow and promote the use of safe working practices. Sets an example for other Technicians to follow related to safety, policies and procedures. Schedules work of Technicians and coordinates with other areas. May publish or assist in publishing in technical reference materials. Expected to lead small sub-teams within assigned area.Required for the Technician IV - R&D: High school diploma or GED with a two-year associate technical degree in a technology related field.Ten or more years of related experience. Advanced knowledge of scientific principles, standards, methods and practices.Advanced knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.Knowledge of alloys including manufacturing processes, material properties and microstructures.
