In the Advanced Manufacturing discipline, the Senior Engineer (Senior AME) is responsible to lead the manufacturing engineering activities relating to the planning and assembly of the complete vehicle and vehicle subsystems. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and manufacturing resources. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Technical Responsibility Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth of the engineering teamSupport Technical Area (TA) core competenciesPropose and lead advance manufacturing topics supporting the GTASupport and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices (global and local)Lead early product development as it relates to manufacturing and assembly needs ensuring optimal balance between product functional criteria and manufacturability as required per the manufacturing best practicesLead or support module teams with assembly simulations and design to valueWork in a lead/support relationship with global and local manufacturing teams to address new, unique characteristics of our products and processLead the development of manufacturing process and equipment concurrent with new product development insuring product performance specifications, cost targets and timing are achievedLead and define the Bill of Processes (BOP), assembly resource needs, space requirements, workflow, layout, and station balance for prototype eventsLead or support the roll down of material handling and logistics needs to the tiered suppliers as required per the operation and BOP planProcess definition in accordance with regulated standards (OSHA/MAFACT/etc.)Lead or support the development of the complete vehicle and subsystem level PFMEA including defining the assembly process for each subsystem per project phase and whether process verification analysis is virtual or empiricalSupport and contribute to serial manufacturing planning and customer program launches while integrating lessons learned from the build/launch events, best practices and establish global benchmarks in support of the operations.Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools, and processes in areas such as materials, machinery, methodologies, measurements, and processes and contribute to the advanced manufacturing knowledgebaseProduction strategy definition coherent with requirements of module teamsDesign assessment to meet project manufacturing targetsProvide technical support to identify, develop, solve, critical process issues with cross functional teams and/or suppliers and participate on design to valueCoordinate cross-technology quotations and product specification, infrastructure, and resource planning for production scope of workProject Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & ReportingEmploy technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystemsSupport the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestonesLead external support, services and resources supporting the project advance manufacturingSupport manufacturing activities assigned to third parties and tiered partnersBe responsible to set and achieve OEM/Magna project manufacturing, cost, and timing targetsSupport the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reportingBe responsible for the advanced manufacturing plans and documents release into internal and external sitesProject Related Interface Support and Promote Project and Operations CollaborationLead global AME touchpoint and milestone meetingsCollaborate with the product development and quality teams to assure build events scope, timing alignment and quality control plansCollaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisionsSupport Local Technical Head and Global Technical Area Head (GTAH) to assure concurrent best practice implementation online organization and during project executionThe role is based in Michigan, but will work remotely from Senior Management located in ArizonaEmployee Related TasksEnsure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditionsResponsible to manage day-to-day activities for hourly and salary personnelEnsure cooperation with project management and all other groups within the area (global cooperation)Ensure the PFMEA is current with updates and resultsEnsure builds events are planned and follow the BOP, workflow, and resource planEnsure the BOP and EOL testing methods are clear and aligned with cross functional teamsEnsure training of employees according to the required skillsEscalate problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team membersPromote sharing know how mindset across peers and with other areasQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
