ALA-accredited master’s degree in librarianship/information science or foreign equivalent, master’s degree in a subject area related to archival work, or a relevant terminal degree.
Position Summary
The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative individual for the position of Digital Archivist. This faculty Librarian position reports to the Head of Digital Stewardship in Discovery and Digital Services. They have responsibility for the accessioning and processing of the Hargrett and Russell Libraries’ born-digital archival collections and support cross-department collaboration. They will engage with the digital archiving community nationally and internationally through committee service and continuing education. This role will require close collaboration with the Head of Digital Stewardship, colleagues at the Special Collections Libraries, and others in the Libraries engaged in digital collections work.

• To be considered at the level of Librarian/Archivist II, candidates must have 2 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree in librarianship/information science, or 2 years of professional experience after completion of their terminal degree in a related field, or 2 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree in a subject area related to archival work as well as Academy of Certified Archivist certification.
• To be considered at the level of Librarian/Archivist III, candidates must have 5 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree in librarianship/information science, or 5 years of professional experience after completion of their terminal degree in a related field, or 5 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree in a subject area related to archival work as well as Academy of Certified Archivist certification.
• To be considered at the level of Librarian/Archivist IV, candidates must have 10 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree in librarianship/information science, or 10 years of professional experience after completion of their terminal degree in a related field, or 10 years of professional experience after completion of their master’s degree in a subject area related to archival work as well as Academy of Certified Archivist certification.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Familiarity with accessioning and processing digital records as part of an established digital archives program.
Familiarity with common tools for digital archives, such as bags, digital forensics, and format identification tools.
Familiarity with digital archival standards such as OAIS, Trusted Digital Repositories, and PREMIS.
Working knowledge of using and writing scripts, preferably in Python.
Demonstrated ability to acquire new skills, learn new technology, and solve problems. Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities.
Demonstrated ability to update workflows and documentation.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collegially in a complex and changing environment.

• Manage born-digital accessioning, including workflow and policy development, supervising a student worker, and accessioning new collections.
• With the Head of Digital Stewardship, co-manage born-digital processing, including workflow and policy development and processing collections in consultation with subject experts.
• Monitor the born-digital backlog and address emerging risks.
• Develop and maintain procedural documentation and scripts for all workflows.
• Provide technical assistance to donors for transferring born-digital archives to the Libraries.
• With the Head of Digital Stewardship, co-lead the Digital Curation Working Group and other cross-department collaboration and peer learning.
• Represent the UGA Libraries in the digital archiving community.
• Maintain an awareness of emerging trends, best practices, and tools in digital archiving.
