JOB SUMMARY:
The Transfer Jockey operates diesel powered tractor trailer combination, bringing trailers to and from loading docks, to and from the yard and/or to and from Plants, to be loaded and unloaded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
• Pulling loaded and empty trailers to be transported to Plant to Plant, Shop, etc.
• Backing/Pulling loaded and unloaded trailers away from loading docks to be staged in the yard.
• Moves trailers within the yard, under direction of Shipping, Supervisors, and Warehouse Leads
• Opens and closes various doors on trailers, secures trailers with locks or seals.
• Ensure Reefers have no less than ½ tank of fuel.
• Ensure the fuel tank is locked at Plant 3. It must always remain locked while not in use.
• Required to maintain radio contact with shipping personnel to receive instructions on when and where to move trailers or other company equipment, such as straight trucks.
• Performs safety checks on yard equipment and trailers (any visual damage, inspections up to date).
• Required to fill out and maintain records, logs, and forms.
• Monitor current trailers for refrigerated equipment operation and maintaining of temperature.
• Adjust temp set point on refrigeration units and report shut down codes to supervisor.
• Inspect and maintain fuel levels for company’s trailers/rental trailer at the docks/yard.
• Organize trailers in the yard when trailer moves are not being given.
• Communicate with transportation team within a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean appearance inside and outside of all vehicles.
• All accidents to be reported immediately to the Safety Manager and Transportation manager on duty. Please make sure you take pictures including the trailer number or truck numbers if needed.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE :
• Previous experience is preferred, but not required for this position.
• No formal education is required
LANGUAGE SKILLS :
Ability to read and interpret documents in English or Spanish, such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete checklists.
Sunday 9pm-5:30am and
Monday-Thursday 8pm-4:30am
