Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) is seeking a detail-driven Accountant/Auditor to support our vital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Transport Reimbursement Program, which generates approximately $36 million annually to support lifesaving services.
In this pivotal role, you will help ensure the accuracy, compliance, and financial health of a program that directly supports our first responders and the community they serve .

What You'll Be Doing • Oversee and perform professional accounting functions related to EMS billing and insurance reimbursement.
• Compile and analyze financial data for the EMS cost report to help secure supplemental payments.
• Investigate and resolve banking and lockbox discrepancies.
• Review and process refunds for overpayments, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
• Prepare, examine, and assess financial reports and accounting records for accuracy and compliance.
• Monitor and support quarterly disbursements to Local Fire and Rescue Departments (LFRDs), reviewing documentation and usage.
• Take on additional accounting tasks that help power the operations of a world-class emergency services team.
Minimum Qualifications
Accountant/Auditor I
• Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting; or a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field with a major of accounting coursework.
• Experience: One (1) year of experience performing professional accounting work.
• Substitution: Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be substituted for a degree in Accounting or a major in Accounting .
Accountant/Auditor II
• Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, or a bachelor's degree in business administration, or related field with a major of accounting coursework.
• Experience: Two (2) years of experience performing professional accounting work comparable to the Accountant/Auditor I.
• Substitution: Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be substituted for a degree in Accounting or a major in Accounting .
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences Selection for interview will be based on the following criterion:
