Location: Bethesda, MD (Hybrid – 2 days/week in office)
Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 base + 5–10% annual bonus

About the Role
The Staff Accountant will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. The position reports to a senior-level accounting manager within a structure that also includes other experienced accountants.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and enter detailed journal entries (daily, monthly, adjusting, and recurring).
• Conduct general ledger analysis, account reconciliations, and roll-forwards for areas including fixed assets, payables, accrued and prepaid expenses.
• Post daily cash activity, record revenues and loan receivables transactions with precision and timeliness.
• Assist with the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including the preparation of financial statements.
• Compile data and analysis for audits and tax preparation, including year-end schedules.
• Address and resolve discrepancies in account reconciliations across systems.
• Contribute to the development and enforcement of internal accounting procedures and controls in compliance with GAAP.
• Assist in accounting-related testing and documentation during system implementations.
• Take ownership of ad hoc projects and other assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in financial services or a fast-paced/start-up environment.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical mindset.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred:
• Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics GP highly preferred).
• Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data modeling).
• Familiarity with accounting in a lending or financial services environment.
