Position Overview
The Shop Helper is an entry-level temporary position focused on supporting daily operations in workshops, factories, and repair shops. Working under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Shop Helper will gain hands-on experience operating machinery, maintaining inventory, performing cleaning tasks, and providing general support to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
This role is critical to maintaining a safe and productive environment and requires consistent performance in line with company values. The position directly supports the production of high-quality products that meet established standards and customer expectations by adhering to all safety and quality protocols. As a safety-sensitive role, the responsibilities of this position directly impact the health and safety of the employee, their coworkers, and the end-users of our products.
Responsibilities
• Operating Devices and Machinery
• Assist team members with operating shop machinery and tools.
• Empty scrap bins; separate materials appropriately (e.g., chips into chip containers, drops into drop bins).
• Inventory Management
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels of janitorial supplies and shop materials.
• Restock personal protective equipment (PPE), safety supplies, and consumables required by welders and fabricators.
• Yard Work
• Support the Yard Operator in organizing kits and materials stored in the yard.
• Cleaning Duties
• Perform thorough cleaning and sanitizing of restrooms, breakrooms, and office areas.
• Tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting surfaces, and cleaning windows and mirrors.
• Ensure restrooms are stocked with paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
• Dust and maintain cleanliness of furniture and fixtures.
• General Support
• Provide assistance to coworkers as needed.
• Participate in snow removal and other seasonal maintenance tasks as required.
• Painting
• Perform basic painting tasks such as prepping surfaces, applying primer or paint, and maintaining clean edges.
• Assist in touch-ups and repainting as needed on shop equipment, parts, or facility surfaces.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good manual dexterity and aptitude for working with tools and machinery.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to changing job requirements and responsibilities.
• Flexibility and willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
IMPORTANT NOTES
This is a safety-sensitive position. In accordance with JGM’s safety policy and applicable regulations, individuals actively using medical marijuana are not eligible for this role.
Candidates must successfully pass a drug screening, including testing for marijuana, prior to starting employment.
