Job Summary
This position is a field-based role for a Commercial Field Underwriter responsible for meeting with agents and managing a portfolio of accounts. The Underwriter will write and review multiline commercial insurance policies, including Workers' Compensation, Liability, Commercial Auto, and Property, with a mix of new and renewal business. The role requires strong knowledge of underwriting practices and excellent relationship-building skills.
Responsibilities
• Underwrite multiline commercial insurance policies, including Workers' Compensation, Liability, Commercial Auto, and Property.
• Manage both new and renewal business, ensuring accurate and timely policy issuance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with agents, offering technical expertise and support.
• Evaluate risk and pricing information, applying appropriate underwriting guidelines and rating elements.
• Analyze complex risks and write policies for clients with premiums up to $1 million.
• Stay current on state/NCCI workers' compensation guidelines, regulations, and competitive trends.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure policy accuracy and compliance.
• Provide recommendations to agents and internal teams based on underwriting analysis and risk assessment.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of underwriting processes and strategies.
Qualifications/Requirements
• At least five years of multiline underwriting experience preferred.
• Experience with complex underwriting, including policies up to $1 million in premium.
• Strong understanding of state/NCCI workers' compensation manuals, guidelines, and rating elements.
• Established relationships within the producer community.
• Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, CIC, or similar preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Excel experience required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong influencing capabilities.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-starter with a proactive approach to work.
• Bachelor's degree in business or a related field preferred.
