CDL Jockey/Forklift Operator
Job Overview
This hybrid role combines responsibilities of a Yard Jockey, Forklift Operator, and Warehouse Associate. The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving trailers within the yard, operating forklifts inside the warehouse, and performing general material handling duties. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient flow of goods from receiving through storage and outbound shipping.
Key Responsibilities
• Move trailers to and from dock doors and staging areas within the yard
• Conduct yard audits and maintain trailer inventory accuracy
• Communicate with dispatch and warehouse teams for timely trailer positioning
• Perform basic inspections of trailers and yard equipment
• Safely operate forklifts (sit-down, stand-up, or clamp, as applicable)
• Load and unload trailers or containers
• Move pallets and materials to designated storage locations
• Assist in staging materials for production or outbound shipment
• Perform general warehouse tasks such as order picking, labeling, packing, and palletizing
• Conduct cycle counts and assists with inventory accuracy
• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse
• Follow all safety guidelines and report hazards or incidents
Minimum Work Experience
• 1+ year operating forklifts in a warehouse or yard environment
• Yard truck or jockey driving experience preferred
• Previous forklift experience
• CDL required plus yard driving
Preferred Education
High School Diploma
Specific Knowledge & Skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
• Basic computer or scanner skills for inventory management
Work Environment
Work is generally performed in a warehouse environment. The noise level is moderate. Generally, well ventilated, and well lit. Warehouse team members may be required to wear protective clothing. Additionally, may operate heavy equipment and strict safety regulations may be required.
Physical Effort
Work is physically strenuous, and team members are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds. Work may require excessive bending or stooping. Team members may be required to climb ladders, use hand tools, and/or use heavy machinery (e.g., forklift, etc.). The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Light duty options may be available.
