Position Description:The Store Shift Lead will oversee and manage the daily operations of our convenience store during assigned shifts. Store Shift Lead will be responsible for ensuring smooth store operations, providing excellent customer service, leading and training staff, managing the store’s inventory, and handling cash. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to multitask, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient store environment. Responsibilities:Team Leadership & Supervision:Lead and supervise store associates during your shift, ensuring that all team members are following company policies and procedures, delivering excellent customer service, and completing their tasks efficiently.Assign tasks to associates, including stocking shelves, operating the cash register, assisting customers, and maintaining store cleanliness. Ensure that tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.Train and mentor new employees on store operations, customer service, and safety protocols. Provide feedback and guidance to existing team members to help improve performance and efficiency.Address employee or customer concerns or conflicts, resolving issues in a calm and professional manner. Escalate matters to management when necessary.Customer Service:Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, assisting with purchases, and resolving complaints or concerns in a professional manner.Ensure customers have a positive experience by maintaining a clean, friendly, and welcoming store atmosphere. Monitor customer service interactions and coach team members as needed.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of store products, promotions, and services to provide accurate information to customers and increase sales.Store Operations:Oversee the opening and closing of the store during your shift, ensuring that the store is properly secured, cash drawers are balanced, and all operational procedures are followed.Manage cash registers, ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed, and perform cash drawer reconciliations at the end of your shift. Handle customer transactions and ensure accuracy in change and receipts.Oversee the stocking of shelves, ensuring products are displayed attractively and rotated properly (FIFO). Monitor inventory levels and notify management of any stock shortages or discrepancies.Set up and maintain product displays and promotional materials to increase product visibility and sales. Ensure that product displays are clean, well-stocked, and in alignment with store promotions.Inventory Control & Loss Prevention:Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records, conducting stock counts, and tracking product movement. Ensure products are stocked in accordance with store layout and organization standards.Monitor store activities and employees to minimize theft, damage, and other inventory loss. Report suspicious behavior to management and ensure that security protocols are followed.Help manage and reduce waste by properly handling product returns, expired goods, and damaged items. Follow inventory rotation and product storage best practices.Health & Safety Compliance:Ensure that the store, including restrooms and food service areas (if applicable), is clean and organized throughout your shift. Regularly check that cleaning tasks are being performed by associates.Ensure that health and safety standards are followed, including food safety if the store sells food. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations.Be familiar with emergency procedures, such as fire drills, first aid, and accident reporting. Ensure the store is prepared for emergencies and that staff members are aware of procedures.Reporting & Administrative Duties:Complete shift reports documenting key activities, including sales, inventory discrepancies, customer feedback, and employee performance. Communicate any issues or concerns to the Store Manager.Track sales performance during your shift and assist in meeting or exceeding sales targets. Provide guidance to team members on upselling and cross-selling strategies.Assist the Store Manager with reports related to store compliance, including health and safety audits, inventory checks, and cash handling. Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education in business, management, or retail is a plus.At least 1-2 years of experience in a retail or convenience store environment, with some supervisory or leadership experience.Previous experience in cash handling, inventory management, and customer service is preferred.Skills & Abilities:Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team, including delegating tasks and providing guidance to employees in a fast-paced environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on providing excellent service and creating a positive shopping experience for customers.Ability to handle customer complaints, employee issues, and operational challenges in a professional and efficient manner.Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and ensure that all store operations run smoothly during your shift.Strong organizational skills to keep track of inventory, sales, and other store operations.Basic knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory software, and scheduling tools.Familiarity with basic office software (e.g., Word, Excel) is a plus.Food Handler Certification or similar certification for handling food, especially if the store sells prepared food items.Alcohol Service Certification (where applicable) for stores selling alcohol and tobacco.Reports To: Store Manager/Assistant Store ManagerPhysical Requirements and Work Environment:Must be able to stand extended periods (up to 8 hours) during shifts.Capable of lifting boxes and products, maximum 50 lbs., frequently 10-25 lbs., and carrying items across the store.Ability to bend, squat, and reach for products on shelves, both high and low. Ability to climb a ladder as needed. Must be able to walk throughout the store and between departments regularly.Ability to handle cash, operate registers, and bag items efficiently.Must be comfortable with repetitive tasks such as scanning items, restocking, and organizing products.Able to work in cold environments, including freezers and refrigerators, when restocking products.The role requires mental focus and stamina to perform physical tasks consistently and efficiently throughout the shift Seasonal snow removal, as needed. Ability to handle emergency situations.
