The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious diseases that affect both animal and human health.

Position Summary
The Center for Vaccines and Immunology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia seeks an outstanding researcher in immunology for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position. Applicants should have a track record of independent research, with interests focused on adaptive immunology. The Center seeks to complement existing strengths by recruiting faculty whose interests include infection and disease models for pathological assessment and vaccine or therapeutic development as a central component of their research program. Candidates having programs leveraging foundational immunological processes to elicit protective immunity and/or modulate immunopathology are also highly competitive. The faculty candidate will be responsible for establishing and overseeing an independent, extramurally funded research program, engaging in collaborative research activities within the Center and across the College and University.
Successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in a rich interdisciplinary and collegial environment provided by the Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases , the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases , the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center , the Center for Molecular Medicine , the Precision One Health Program , the Regenerative Bioscience Center , the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research , as well as the Departments of Infectious Diseases, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry and others.
The University of Georgia has the highest amount of NIH funding among all public universities that do not have a medical school on their campus. The recently established UGA School of Medicine will further advance ongoing biomedical, life sciences, and veterinary research programs at the university, expanding the research enterprise. The most competitive faculty candidates will leverage new opportunities arising from the new medical training and research programs and facilities.
Candidates can also to leverage collaborative resources and research services available through the Clinical and Translational Research Unit , the Institute of Bioinformatics , and the Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Alliance . The University of Georgia Office of Research and College of Veterinary Medicine also provide robust technology transfer, biocontainment, and animal research and care programs.

The Department of Infectious Diseases in the College of Veterinary Medicine will serve as the successful candidate’s tenure unit.
Additional Requirements
Applicants for these positions must hold a Ph.D. with or without D.V.M., M.D., or equivalent. Successful candidates will be expected to have, or to establish nationally recognized, externally funded research programs and contribute to teaching in undergraduate, graduate and/or professional curricula.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, And/or Certification
The most successful candidates will have:
• An established record of extramural funding through federal, philanthropic, and/or industry research funding.
• A research program having translational potential (i.e. an interest in or record of clinical application and commercialization)
• An established record of collaborative research.
Assistant Professor position should have (or be expected to have by 2025):
• Earned Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, molecular biology, vaccines, or related field from an accredited university.
• Completed appropriate postdoctoral training to have defined expertise in their field.
• Potential for publishing peer-reviewed research in top tier journals in the discipline.
• Potential for crafting competitive funding proposals to support research in the discipline.
• Proven success in teaching college-level courses at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level.
Associate Professor Position Should Have
• Earned Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, molecular biology, vaccines, or related field from an accredited university.
• Earned tenure at an accredited university.
• An established record of publications in top tier peer-reviewed journals in the discipline.
• Served as Primary Investigator or Co-Primary Investigator on at least one competitive extramural grant or contract in past three years.
• Received early-career recognition for outstanding scholarship, teaching or service from college or university.
• Proven success in teaching college-level courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional levels.
• Served as a graduate committee advisor and evidence of successful graduate student mentoring ability.
