Job Title: Referral Specialist
Division: Parkside Pediatrics
Weekly Hours: Part-time 30 hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 2:00 pm
Supervised by: Referral Coordinator, Parkside Pediatrics

Position Overview: The Referral Specialist is responsible for completing the referral process to provide high quality care for our patients. Ensuring that all providers, facilities, and patients have the information and resources needed to coordinate specialized care for the patient. Reviews clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies that lead to shared expectations for cost effectiveness. Supports the department members with shared tasks daily/weekly. These duties will require 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
Send referral and diagnostic imaging orders to specialists and follow up on their processing.
Ensure patients are scheduled on time according to their diagnosis and care needs, and communicate appointment details to patients, families, and caregivers.
Follow up with specialists to obtain consult notes and medical records, ensuring continuity of care with the provider as needed.
Foster positive relationships with outside specialty offices.
Provide excellent service to patients, families, caregivers, external offices, and team members with professionalism and respect.
Promote a transparent and supportive work environment.
Manage the prior authorization process for imaging orders (CT, MRI, etc.), including responding to requests and coordinating with providers.
Keep patients informed about their prior authorization status and address any questions they may have.
Offer support to the Referrals Team during downtime, including tasks like sending referrals, running reports, and returning patient calls.
Manage out-of-state authorization paperwork requests for Medicaid patients.
Attend office meetings and professional development in office.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
Expert computer skills and typing to include Microsoft Applications, i.e. Excel, Word, Teams, etc.
Healthcare/Customer Service office setting preferred but not required.
Home internet for limited work from home hours for weather delays or closings.
Work Environment and Physical Demand
Ability to physically attend your workstation designated by the company during normal business hours for this position.
Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time and travel up to 10% of the time.
