Front-of-house (FOH) restaurant staff are responsible for customer-facing operations, including greeting guests, managing reservations, seating, taking orders, serving food and drinks, and handling payments. These roles ensure a smooth and positive dining experience for guests.
Key Responsibilities Of Front-of-House Staff
• Order Taking and Communication:
Taking accurate orders, communicating with the kitchen, and delivering food and beverages.
• Payment Handling:
Processing payments efficiently and accurately, including cash and credit cards.
• Cleanliness and Organization:
Maintaining a clean and organized dining area, including bussing tables and ensuring a tidy appearance.
• Conflict Resolution:
Addressing customer concerns and complaints with professionalism and resolving issues to the satisfaction of the customer and management.
• Teamwork and Communication:
Collaborating with other FOH staff and back-of-house staff to ensure smooth service.
• Menu Knowledge:
Understanding the menu and being able to answer customer questions about ingredients, dietary restrictions, and specials.
• Following Procedures:
Adhering to established procedures for order modifications, special requests, and substitutions.
• Customer Service:
Greeting guests warmly, assisting with seating, and providing excellent service throughout the dining experience.
• Reservation Management:
Managing reservations, seating guests according to preferences, and accommodating walk-ins.
Examples Of Front-of-House Positions
• Host/Hostess: Manages reservations, seating, and guest flow.
• Server: Takes orders, serves food and drinks, and handles payments.
• Bartender: Prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Bus Person: Cleans tables, sets them for the next guests, and assists servers.
