Qualifications:

Job Title: International Baccalaureate ( IB) Program Coordinator
The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) requires all authorized IB schools to appoint a coordinator who has the overall responsibility for overseeing the implementation and delivery of the IB Program(s) at the school.
REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree preferred; Valid SC educator’s license or eligibility for SC license; International Baccalaureate experience preferred; Minimum of five years’ experience in teaching and/or administration; prefer Advanced Placement endorsement or eligible for endorsement; fluent in one more foreign languages helpful; experience in program administration, curriculum, and staff development preferred; competent in technology; excellent communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
Performance Responsibilities:
Oversee Select Schools Application Process
- Assist parents and students with the online application process as needed
- Process and score incoming applications for each round
- Advise parents and guidance counselors of missing documentation in application process
- Send acceptance, wait list and denial letters for each round
- Confer with elementary counselors as needed
- Maintain accurate records concerning Select Schools applications and enrollments
- Return all phone calls and respond to email messages regarding the magnet application process
- Provide information to central office personnel for appeals as requested
Help to Maintain School and Community Relations
- Communicate with the school principal on a regular basis regarding all matters related to the magnet program
- Attend monthly Select Schools Principal/Coordinators’ Meetings and other district-level meetings as requested by the District Coordinator for Select Schools
- Report to District Coordinator for Select Schools as required and provide any requested information
- Communicate with parents about the Select Schools application process and the status of applications
- Collaborate with other middle school coordinators as needed
- Maintain communications with public and private elementary school principals and guidance counselors
- Provide information to elementary school PTSA newsletter coordinators
- Update magnet link on school website as to dates, information, etc.
- In consultation with the principal, work with the school’s PTSA to ensure open communication between the school and PTSA regarding all magnet issues
- Work with school administrators on issues and concerns directly related to the school’s magnet program
Recruitment
- Develop and implement a recruitment plan for prospective magnet students
- Speak at fifth grade information sessions during school day at all elementary schools which request coordinator’s presence at the event
- Plan and present before/after school information sessions for parents of prospective magnet students at the elementary schools
- Provide information regarding magnet program dates and information to elementary guidance counselors
- Speak at evening information sessions for parents of prospective magnet students at all elementary schools which request coordinator’s presence at the event
- Set up displays (Select Schools Kick-Off, Central Office, school events)
- Organize and man the school’s table at the annual Select Schools Kick-Off
- Coordinate and conduct tours for prospective magnet students and their parents interested in attending Hughes Academy as magnet students
- Meet with parents and prospective magnet students
- Create and share promotional literature about the school’s science and technology magnet program at elementary schools, Select Schools Kick-Off, and other events
Coordinate Transportation For Out-of-Area Students
- Serve as the liaison between parents and Transportation Department staff
- Call magnet students during the summer when they cannot be reached by the Transportation Office
- Secure a list of magnet bus assignments for the assistant principal responsible for buses
Oversee Select Schools Renewal Process
- Assist parents and students in the Online Select Schools Renewal Process as needed
- Maintain a file of all current magnet enrollees
- Assist magnet parents with changes address as needed and forward information to the school’s attendance clerk
- At the beginning of each school year, work with the school attendance clerk to create a complete, accurate database of all magnet students
- Provide a list of names of new magnet students (and updates) for attendance and guidance clerks to assist in the enrollment process
Other Responsibilities
- Work with school administrators and staff regarding school activities and special programs specifically related to the magnet program
- Work with the school principal to prepare the school’s annual budget request for the district’s Finance Department
- Work with the school principal to oversee spending of Select Schools funds
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal
Specific job responsibilities of the IB coordinator include the following:
1. Help to Maintain School and Community Relations
* Communicate with the school principal on a regular basis regarding all matters related to the IB Program
* Work with school administrators on all matters directly related to the school’s IB Program
* Attend monthly IB Schools Meetings and other district-level meetings as requested by the District Coordinator for IB Schools
* Provide any requested information to District Coordinator for IB
* Collaborate regularly with other IB coordinators
* Maintain communication between the school and the International Baccalaureate Organization
* Maintain complete records of IBO publications on file and distribute them as needed
* Maintain appropriate IB student records
* Organize internal assessment and the standardization of internal assessment according to IB criteria
* Organize formal procedures in preparation for moderation
* Promote the IB program within the school and in the school community
* Communicate with students regarding the goals and objectives of the program and monitor IB student progress
* Meet regularly with students to discuss pertinent topics of interest
* Provide new students with an appropriate orientation to the IB Program requirements and subject area aims and objectives
* Organize and facilitate IB parent meetings
* Communicate regularly with parents to provide comprehensive information on the IB Program that is designed to build awareness and understanding of the programs
* Ensure that parents understand the IB assessment criteria and that they are kept informed of their child’s progress
