Sports & Special Events Manager
Summary/Objective
The successful candidate for this position will have the capacity to work in a team setting with the shared purpose of attracting visitors to the Salina and Saline County area. This position is specifically responsible for promoting Salina as a site for new and existing sports and special events. The primary objective of this position is to grow Visit Salina’s customer base of overnight stays, as well as retain current clients.
Essential Functions
· Build relationships with local event facility staff as well as event rights holder, to secure venues for sports and special events.
· Coordinate and host site visits for prospective event rights holders.
· Answer inquiries/request for proposals for sports and special events, as well as draft agreements as necessary.
· Provide service value to an event once it is taking place by utilizing Visit Salina assets.
· Maintain client database and files.
· Utilize Microsoft Access to estimate economic benefit of specific events for fund and service allocation purposes, as well as annual reporting.
· Recruit volunteers for Visit Salina projects and provide support and supervision as necessary.
· Prepare reports and presentations for governing bodies, including the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Convention and Tourism Advisory Board, and the Salina City Commission.
· Direct and help enter/update calendars in multiple programs including the client database and SalinaAE.
· Direct and/or help deliver and assemble welcome packets for information booths and events.
· Inventory and order supplies and promotional items.
· Provide supervision for summer intern including his/her participation in large events.
Competencies and Experience
· Background and education in the marketing and/or sales field.
· Highly ambitious personality with focus on goal setting and collaboration.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
· Working knowledge of PC, Microsoft Suite and industry software, email, etc.
· Ability to multi-task and to work effectively under deadlines.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
Preferred Education
Minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, preferably PR, Marketing, Business, or related field.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and includes occasional working hours during evenings and weekends. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 45 pounds.
