The Animal Care Pathway Planning Assistant will provide essential support to the Pathway Planning team, assisting in behavior assessments, animal handling, administrative tasks, and operational duties. This role requires confidence in handling dogs and cats of all temperaments, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The assistant will work alongside staff and will not be expected to perform duties independently. Assist with behavior assessments, ensuring evaluations stay on schedule; safely handle and care for dogs and cats, including those with behavioral concerns; load and unload animals for transport, intake, and medical procedures; monitor and document behavioral changes. Handle paperwork related to animal care, behavior evaluations, and placement; fill and organize medications as directed; assist in scheduling surgeries and veterinary appointments; deliver surgery paperwork to appropriate locations as needed; maintain accurate records in spreadsheets and industry-specific software. Work efficiently in a high-volume environment requiring quick decision-making; support euthanasia decision-making while maintaining professionalism in emotionally challenging situations; ensure workspaces and animal care areas remain clean and organized. Experience handling animals, especially large dogs and those with behavioral challenger; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort learning new software. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting; comfortable working in an emotionally demanding environment; team-oriented mindset; willing to assist with various tasks as needed. Part-time schedule with flexible hours based on operational needs; work is performed in a shelter environment, requiring frequent standing, lifting, and handling of animals; exposure to loud environments, strong odors, and emotionally sensitive situations. High school diploma or GED required, associate's degree in animal science, psychology, veterinary technology, or related field preferred. Certification or training in animal behavior (e.g., Fear Free Shelter, CPDT-KA, or equivalent preferred). Prior experience working with animals in a shelter or veterinary setting strongly preferred.
