Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA), he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Parks & Recreation
Hours of Work: Monday - Sunday; Hours vary depending on activities.
This position is regular, part-time (36 hours per week)
Example of Duties
Plan, develop, and implement recreation programs at various facilities within regional Park Districts. Coordinate programs, staff and volunteers. Work cooperatively with the service districts and other community organizations and agencies to determine programming needs within the districts. Drive to various locations within the community.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED or equivalent and one year experience in the program or activity under consideration. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
NOTICE
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160[10]). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $59.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
Additional Important Information
Strongly prefer applicants with public relations programs, principles, practices and method experience, covering all technical elements of program planning, implementation, and evaluation. Strongly prefer applicant with leadership experience in recreation programs, as well as skills in public speaking and written presentations. Strongly prefer applicants with abilities to connect community resources, think creatively, and develop relationships. Prefer applicants who possess the ability to work independently. Prefer experience with cash handling in a public recreation environment.
