Summary: The Refrigeration / HVAC Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of Refrigeration and HVAC systems within our distribution center. This position is responsible for performing refrigeration operations, conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance repair throughout the warehouse. This includes diagnosing, repairing and maintaining several refrigeration systems and multiple HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards. Provide maintenance support as necessary to ensure operational objective are met. Perform basic troubleshooting and repair of industrial mechanical and electrical systems as needed. 1st shift position with Fri/Sat off! Attendance incentive!!! Make up to $4 more per hour! Position Responsibilities (include but are not limited to the following): Performs routine maintenance on office and break room HVAC systems Operates and performs repair(s) and adjustment(s) of refrigeration system. Monitor system performance and determine when system is not operating correctly. Performs routine maintenance on various types of warehouse equipment in accordance with company Standards. Test, maintain, and evaluate equipment performance using instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, pyrometers, and pressure gauges Maintain tools and machinery in good condition and use tools and equipment carefully as instructed. Troubleshoots equipment and recommends corrective action. Conducts test of safety equipment (Exit signs, dock equipment, roll up doors, sprinkler systems, etc.) to ensure operational standards Maintains accurate preventive maintenance records using CMMS program. Communicate with other technicians to collaborate and provide clear updates on maintenance activities. Attention to detail is essential, as technicians must accurately assess issues and perform precise repairs to ensure safety and efficiency. Follow attendance policy, show up for work on time and ready to work assigned shift. Answer security alarm calls as needed. Keeps work area clean and performs housekeeping duties as required. Able to perform routine maintenance on external equipment and grounds to include snow removal, painting, paving repairs, etc. Performs other maintenance related work and job assignments as required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required: The required skills for this position include a strong technical understand of HVAC and refrigeration systems, which will be applied daily to diagnose and repair equipment. Knowledge of general refrigeration practices Strong communication and interpersonal skills Mathematical and documentation skills necessary Ability to work with hands in mechanically oriented situations Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as interpret pencil sketches and diagrams Proficient use of testing equipment. Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose down to the component level on all refrigeration equipment. Share knowledge, train and support the development of others. Must be able to work flexible shifts, if required, including on call Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: they must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor Able to handle multiple tasks at once, be organized and demonstrate a high sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment Must be able to maintain a professional manner and effectively handle all situations Ability to maintain professionalism during periods of high volume and stress Ability to work with all levels of management, staff, vendors and service technicians General administrative and basic computer skills including internet usage and Microsoft Office Suite. Acts with a flexible and team-oriented approach Proactive in nature Qualifications & Experience: Proven experience in HVAC and refrigeration maintenance and repair. Strong understanding of electrical systems related to HVAC and refrigeration. 2 years combined Refrigeration and/or Maintenance experience (relevant Technical School certification program and/or Associates Degree program considered in lieu of employment experience). Valid HVAC certification and/or refrigerant handling certification. Certification in specialized HVAC or refrigeration systems. Required to successfully complete assigned Industrial Refrigeration and/or mechanical-electrical courses. Required to train in HAZMAT, obtain and maintain the certification. Basic computer skills required (email, internet searches, basic data entry, etc.). Knowledge of various types of equipment in maintenance trades Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (SAP Preferred) Working Conditions: Environmental – Warehouse environment, exposure to cold, outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold) Walking, standing, bending, lifting, stooping, sitting Must be able to climb ladders and stairs Must be able to work at heights in excess of 35 ft. and be able to access elevated platforms and catwalk. Frequently required to stand; walk; push; pull; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; and crouch Must be able to use hand and power tools Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception. Either naturally or with the aid of eyeglasses (use of contacts is prohibited when working with ammonia).
